As usual, my thanks to all the photographers here, who without a second thought, made their images available for use in this showcase of the collection of steam locomotives, which may be seen at the old Steam loco depot at Bloemfontein. As often is the case, some of the locomotives are very difficult to photograph sideways because of the closeness of the items.
Some of the Industrial Locomotive histories have been found in John Middleton's "Industrial Locomotives of South Africa 1991" edition.
On 4 August 2009 John & Jacque Wepener visited the old steam loco depot in Bloemfontein and their report for the day was posted to several locations on the web:
"Then we headed to the old BFX steam loco depot for a visit to Lucas Nel. Unfortunately he was not there, but the friendly staff made us feel most welcome, and let us wander around everywhere. Thanks guys - much appreciated. It was unfortunately a short visit, and if we have got some numbers and classes wrong, or, if we've missed something, please rectify us."
